i think something like our "true self" does exist--it's just never completed. our true self is basically a collection of multiple little tid-bits taken from here and there, but the illogical part is that this collection of traits does not make up a whole; we are not stationary- as we move through life we keep acquiering new traits (or dropping off old ones)... so we are never whole in that sense- we are never complete (and, once again, Tom Cruise is overrated) :)...i dunno; maybe our true self is not this collection of traits; maybe the true self is defined by the process according to which we aquire new traits or dro off old ones) :)...
or maybe i just watched Solaris one too many times :) :)
