Now they did not fulfill their obligation and AGAIN are trying to justify a deregulation, now - of the Internet - by saying that they need the extra profit opportunities to build these fucking fiber networks.

BTW, when I addressed the post to some people, I was expecting to hear some constructive criticizm of the facts.. how naive.

Kisa, that's not an article, that's a summary of an e-book, and it's very light on facts. And it does get some facts wrong - like saying that 0% of American consumers have 45 Mbps, when I know for a fact that there are fiberoptics around.

Telecom is one of the heaviest regulated industries, so it's no wonder it's moving at a very slow pace. Thankfully, FCC refuses to regulate the Internet itself.

Krem, "0% of the Bell companies’ customers have 45 Mbps residential services" -- u mean u know at least 1 person who has 45Mbps RESIDENTIAL??????? and they are talking about 0% households... its more than 1 person....

I do not think FCC should regulate the Internet. I think they however absolutely MUST regulate the service providers.

kisa, as far as i know, Turnpike is an "authority", which is pretty much a government sanctioned corporation, whose only mission statement is to build and maintain the turnpike highway system. there was a big mess several years ago when the broke state of NJ attempted to approptiate Turnpike authority's surplusses. as far as i know their endeavor was fruitless, that's why they sold the multiyear tobacco settlement at a discount just to get a lump of cash to cover their deficit.

I like the way things are handled in New Hampshire. When a road/bridge is built, it's construction and maintenance cost is projected over 20 or 30 years with inflation included. Then they charge that 35 cents or whaever for 20 years. They cant raise the toll or extend the collection period. At the end of 20 years if the road is not paid yet due to some miscalculation, the toll still disappears, and the state is stuck with the rest of the bill. This is good incentive for good estimates.
